Biblical reference : Genesis 1:26 – 2:25.
On the sixth and final day of creation, God created animals and human beings. Humanity is different from other animals because we are made in the image and likeness of God. First God made man, Adam. Then, from his rib, he created woman, Eve. God made people with a clear purpose: to have a relationship of friendship and peace with God.
However, even though they had everything they needed, Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. They lived in the Garden of Eden, lacking nothing. But they chose to eat the fruit of the tree that God had forbidden them to eat, and by disobeying, they forever damaged the perfect relationship they had with God. Disobedience and sin entered the world!
They repented of their great mistake, but they decided to hide from God. Of course, that was impossible. God found them, spoke to them, and clothed them in clothing of skins.
And the Lord God said, “Now the human being has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Or else he might reach out his hand and take some of the fruit of the tree of life and eat it and live forever.” 23Then the Lord God drove the human being out of the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been made. 24Then he drove the human being out of the Garden of Eden and placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned to and fro to guard the way to the tree of life. (Genesis 3:22-24)
To reflect on: God created humans to be special in their creation and to have a unique and wonderful friendship with them.
- We are created in God’s image and we are special to him. Do you appreciate God’s design in you and in other people?
- God desires to have a close and precious friendship with every human being. Have you opened the door of your heart to Him? Are you a friend of God?
- Sin always has consequences, but in God we can find forgiveness and a new opportunity. Always come to God, confess your sins to Him and receive His forgiveness.
