Bible reference : Genesis 12:1-9

God decided to choose one man: Abram. Through him He planned to start a new nation that would be called God’s people. The Lord told Abram to leave his land (Haran) and his relatives and travel to a place that He would show him. Abram obeyed and left the land where he lived, taking with him Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his nephew.

God made promises to Abraham, asking him to count the stars if he could. So his descendants would be countless. God also told him that his name would be great and that the entire world would be blessed through him and the new nation that would come from him. Abram believed God and built an altar to Him. He had true faith in God and that made all the difference.

To reflect on : All the people of the world, one day, were going to be blessed by God through Abram’s family.

  • Faith means believing something is true, even if everything else is against it.
  • God promised to make a great nation out of an old man with a barren wife. What a miracle! God did the impossible: He created a nation out of an unlikely couple.
