Do you know how much God loves you? Knowing the greatness of God’s love can touch your heart and transform your life. The following verses will help you understand more deeply the great love God has for you.
1. God loved you first
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be an offering for the forgiveness of our sins. (1 John 4:10)
God the Father has loved you long before you were born and has shown you his love. He took the initiative by sending his Son Jesus to die on the cross. He not only took the first step, but God was thinking of you when he sent Jesus. He has always known and loved you.
2. God is your friend
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13)
Jesus wants to be your closest friend. He loves you so much that He was willing to give His life for you by dying on the cross, so that you can receive forgiveness of your sins and the salvation of your soul. You will never find a greater, more transformative, and more powerful friendship than His.
3. God’s love is unconditional
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
God loves you, even though He knows your faults and all the mistakes you have made. There is nothing hidden from Him. However, His love is not limited and is not based on your behavior. God is always more than willing to forgive you and restore you. You just have to approach Him with humility, repent, and accept His request for friendship.
4. Bigger than a mother’s love
Can a mother forget her nursing child, or stop loving the child she has borne? Though she forget him, I will not forget you! (Isaiah 49:15)
God’s love is greater than the love of the most loving mother in the world. Even if you have never known the love of your earthly parents, you can know the great love of God. His love will fill your heart and transform your life. You will never feel alone again because God’s presence will be with you for all eternity.
5. You are a child of God
See what great love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! And so we are! The world does not know us because it did not know him. (1 John 3:1)
By accepting God’s love into your life, you immediately become part of God’s family with all the privileges of a beloved child. Have you told your heavenly Father that you want Him to reign in your heart? Have you acknowledged Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If so, you can be sure that you are His child forever.
6. God’s love protects
How precious is your unfailing love, O God! In the shadow of your wings all people find refuge. (Psalm 36:7)
In His love, God protects you just as a bird cares for its young and protects them from the dangers of the world. You can take refuge in the Lord’s love in your times of pain or need. His powerful love will sustain you and help you weather the storms of life.
7. Jesus gave everything
You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9)
Jesus left all his glory in heaven and suffered greatly for love of you. You are so precious to him that he was even willing to give his life because he loves you. Remember how he sees you and appreciate his great love and sacrifice.
8. The greatest expression of God’s love
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Jesus is the greatest expression of God’s love. God became incarnate, dwelt among us, and was willing to go to the cross so that you may receive his love and the forgiveness of your sins, so that you may live with him for all eternity. But remember, you must choose: you decide whether or not to accept his gift of love and forgiveness.
9. God’s love helps and comforts
I had just said, “My feet are slipping,” but your loving-kindness, O Lord, helped me. When my anguish was so great, your comfort filled my soul with joy. (Psalm 94:18-19)
God’s love for you is very great. He accompanies you at all times, he does not abandon you in your moments of difficulty or in the midst of pain. On the contrary, God remains at your side, extends his loving hand, helps you and comforts you. Cling to him in the difficult moments of your life and experience the healing power of his love for you.
10. The love of God is in you
And this hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit he has given us. (Romans 5:5)
The Holy Spirit of God dwells in you, His love has filled you, and you can live with hope. That hope came when God poured His love into your heart. It strengthens you in the midst of suffering and helps you look to the future with peace of mind. When God’s love fills your whole heart, there is no room for despair.
